Airfare tends to be the most cost-prohibitive part of planning a vacation or trip. And with delayed flights, over-crowded cabins, excess fees and no free food, it’s surprising that airlines are able to charge such high tickets prices.
Booking travel is so easy to do, yet all too often we wind up spending more than we wanted.
Here are a few rules to finding the cheapest round trip airline tickets today:
Test the 24-hour rule – After you book, check the next morning to see if the price of your airfare fell.
Leave on a Wednesday – The cheapest day during the week is on a Wednesday. Try to book your ticket to and from your destination on a Wednesday.
Become a frequent flier – Joining frequent flier programs allows you to rack up points for various airlines and eventually you’ll get some perks out of it such as a free flight.
Fly out early – Leaving early in the morning tends to be cheaper than leaving in the afternoon or evening.
Search for deals in the morning – Airline tickets seem to be cheaper in the morning and during the week, such as a Monday or Tuesday.
